Joy, tradition and business

Traditionally there are three major events in a person's life when community/ family comes together and money is spent as per the (perceived) status of the person/ family under consideration

1. Birth of a child and ensuing celebrations (so many social events)
2. Marriage, perhaps the biggest of the three, big fat indian wedding (perhaps because two families are involved)
3. Death; yes even death is such a good business proposition for many starting from Pandit to the halwaai

nice nazm by Rahat Indori Sahib

the last couplet is just awesome

Ig Nobel awards for stupid science

The Ig Nobels, or Igs, are an annual exercise in irreverence that celebrate research that “cannot, or should not, be repeated”. They are given to scientists whose results first make people laugh, and then make them think.
The ceremony took place at Harvard University on Thursday, with the coveted prizes handed out by real Nobel laureates. This year’s recipients were allowed no more than 60 seconds to deliver their acceptance speech, a time limit enforced by an eight-year-old girl.

Mathematics prize: Awarded to Gideon Gono, governor of Zimbabwe’s Reserve Bank, for giving people a simple way of dealing with a wide range of numbers. Mr. Gono ordered his bank to print notes with denominations ranging from one cent to one hundred trillion dollars.

William Butler Yeats

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams.

I had first heard these lines in a movie named Equilibrium....the last line is just so awesome

अमल = Actions

Just a thought

When you are seating in the middle row of an assembly your "area of view" is reduced accordingly as you can not see behind your back but if you sit in the back you can have a full view. My observation:

Backbenchers have the widest view and perspective :)

what to say!!!!!!!!!!!

Movie: Hum Dono (1961)
Lyricist: Sahir Ludhianvi

chalo ik baar phir se ajnabi ban jaayen hum dono

Movie: Gumrah (1963)
Lyricist: Sahir Ludhiyanavi.....the guy is simply great

MIND GAME...worth trying believe me

Think of a number from 1 to 10

Multiply that number by 9

If the number is a 2-digit number, add the digits together

Now subtract 5

Determine which letter in the alphabet corresponds to the number you ended up with

(example: 1=a, 2=B, 3=c,etc.)

Think of a country that starts with that letter

Remember the last letter of the name of that country

Think of the name of an animal that starts with that letter

Remember the last letter in the name of that animal

Think of the name of a fruit that starts with that letter

when done, press Ctrl + A, and read the end of the post

! ; Are you thinking of a Kangaroo in Denmark eating an Orange ?

No matter which number you select from 1 to 9, the end number would be 4 and 4 = D.

For example,

1*9 = 9 -5 = 4

2*9= 18; 1+8=9 – 5 = 4

3*9 = 27; 2+7=9 -5 = 4, and so on

There are only 3 countries in the world whose name starts with D; Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti & Denmark. I believe this explains Denmark.

http://www.ch.cam.ac.uk/c2k/c2knation.html

Now for the animals whose name starts with K;

Kaffir cat, Kafue flats lechwe, Kalahari scrub robin, Kangaroo, Kelp gull, Killer whale, Kingfisher, Kite, Klipspringer, etc.

http://lib.colostate.edu/wildlife/atoz.php?sortby=Common_Name&letter=K

This would explain kangaroo.

Now for the fruit with O, I believe this is easy.

Now to answer differently you should either be citizens of congo or Djibouti or a really freaked out mind.

The Counterfeiters

The plan was directed by, and named after, SS Sturmbannführer (Major) Bernhard Krüger, who set up a team of 142 counterfeiters from inmates at Sachsenhausen concentration camp at first, and then from other camps, especially Auschwitz Beginning in 1942, the work of engraving the complex printing plates, developing the appropriate rag-based paper with the correct watermarks, and breaking the code to generate valid serial numbers was extremely difficult, but by the time Sachsenhausen was evacuated in April 1945 the printing press had produced 8,965,080 banknotes with a total value of £134,610,810. The notes are considered among the most perfect counterfeits ever produced, being almost impossible to distinguish from the real currency.

one of the first ghazals that I memorized, by Saleem Kaushar Sahib

rat race

a samll ghazal by Nida Fazli Sahib

Into The Wild (movie quote)

Seas only gifts are hard blows and occasionally the chance to feel strong. Now, I don't know much about the sea, but I do know that that's the way it is here. And I also know how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong but to feel strong, to measure yourself at least once, to find yourself at least once in the most ancient of human conditions facing the blind deaf stone alone with nothing to help you but your hands and your own head.

Raj's goons target 26/11 heroes

Raj's goons target 26/11 heroes
Ketki Angre
Tuesday, January 27, 2009 10:07 PM (Nashik)

On Monday, those who were martyred in the Mumbai attacks on November 26, 2008 were honoured a grateful nation on Republic Day in New Delhi.

But in Nashik, the workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) went on a rampage in a civic school, burning and tearing apart the posters of those heroes.

The reason -- locals were celebrating their martyrdom by singing Bhojpuri songs. The incident has left locals shaken and insecure.

For 11-year-old Sunita Yadav, who was at school when the mob came, it was a nightmare.

"My brother and I called for help. We hid under the staircase. My foot was hurt and I could not go to school the next day. When I returned, my mother was crying," Sunita said.

Last February, Raj Thackeray's hate campaign had forced an exodus from this MNS stronghold.

About 50 per cent have returned but these incidents will make them insecure once again.

"Anything can happen anytime. Where will we go?" a villager said.

Raj Thackeray has been arrested four times over the last year but he remains undeterred. And by arresting 18 MNS workers in this attack, the state claims enough has been done.

"We want to send a strong message. All those indulged in violence have been arrested. Strict sections have been applied to them," Maharashtra Home Minister Jayant Patil said.

It is not just Raj Thackeray's party but also the Shiv Sena that is on a rampage. Sena MP Sanjay Raut was briefly arrested and released on bail on Tuesday, a week after leading a brazen attack on a five star hotel in the city.

But it's clear that the Shiv Sena too doesn't fear tough action from the government.
